Chirbits are short audio clips. To record them directly on the site, all you need is a microphone or a webcam with a built in microphone.

You may also wish to record the file in an external program for more creative control. We accept MP3, M4A or WAV files for upload but will allow other audio formats in the future. You can create MP3s or WAVs in a number of ways. We will list some of the tools here.

Audio Software:

• Audacity: is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.


• LAME: is a library that allows some programs to encode MP3 files.


• Garage Band: how to record a podcast (also applies to Chirbits) with Apple's Garage Band.
